Yeah, it’s easy to get pizza sauce out of a jar. I’m not going to bad-mouth convenience food users, because I’m totally one of them.
But it’s actually really easy to make homemade pizza sauce with ingredients I always have on hand. This way I don’t have to make sure to remember to buy it, plus it tastes absolutely delicious. I am totally not willing to admit but might just hint that I may have possibly licked the bowl clean after I’ve put the pizza in the oven. Maybe.
I found this recipe online many years back and have modified it a bit to my taste. One batch makes a big pizza plus extra (if you like to dip crusts), or you can double the recipe and have enough for three pizzas.
Homemade Pizza Sauce
1 6 oz can tomato paste
1 can water
(1 14 ounce can tomato sauce can be substituted for the tomato paste)
3 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon honey
3/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon marjoram
1/4 teaspoon basil
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1/8 dried red pepper
salt, to taste
Whisk water into the tomato paste in a medium bowl. Mix in all other ingredients. Let sit for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
